Treasurer’s Message – BAS 70

Dear Members,

I am pleased to inform you that I, Raja Malakar, have been nominated as the Hon. Treasurer of the Bengali Association of Singapore for the year 2026. It is an honour to serve an organisation that has played a vital role in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Bengal in Singapore for seven decades. I was privileged to be part of the 2025 Management Committee and I look forward to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to me in the year ahead.

We recently concluded our Borshoboron 2026 celebration, which marked an energetic start to the year. Looking ahead, we plan to organise a series of events throughout the year, spanning community integration, workshops, sports, and cultural showcases. As always, Durga Puja will remain our flagship event and the highlight of our collective celebrations.

To successfully organise these events leading up to Durga Puja, a strong financial foundation is essential. I would therefore like to request all esteemed members to kindly clear their membership dues for 2026 at the earliest. Your timely contributions will enable us to plan and execute our activities smoothly and effectively.

As you may be aware, over the past six years our expenses have increased steadily, however, we have been able to maintain the membership dues and Pujo overhead contributions at the same levels. This has been possible through prudent expense management, along with efforts to explore additional income avenues such as sponsorships, donations, and external or government grants. In this regard, we would greatly appreciate any leads or connections that our members may be able to share with us regarding sponsorships or grants. In the coming months, we will share further details regarding our membership benefits, as well as our line-up of events. Closer to Durga Puja, I will also seek your continued support for Pujo overhead contributions and fundraising efforts. Your contributions and timely support will be instrumental in ensuring the success of all our initiatives.

I am confident that with your encouragement and wholehearted participation, we will be able to organise and celebrate a vibrant and successful year together.
