About Bengali Association Singapore (BAS)
The Bengali Association Singapore is a non-profit, member-driven organisation with a rich cultural heritage spanning six decades, with more than 2,500 members working and living in the Lion City. Our members are industrialists, bankers, journalists, lawyers, educators, artists and more, each of them contributing meaningfully to Singapore society.
BAS hosts a variety of cultural events throughout the year, including “Noboborsho” – the Bengali New Year – “Holi” as well as member-led musical performances, dance recitals, and theatre.
Durga Pujo is our flagship 5-day festival that draws a crowd of more than 15,000 people over the full week, with a grand celebration through song and dance, recitals, plays, fashion shows, and competitions.
BAS also hosts Confluence, the festival of harmony and integration, alongside Durga Pujo. Confluence celebrates racial, cultural and religious diversity and helps facilitate integration in Singapore’s multifaceted society. The focus is on understanding and appreciating different cultures, customs, religions and practices, fostering a spirit of unity.
We also undertake many community outreach initiatives to help members better integrate with Singapore’s multiracial, multicultural community.
